Change to Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom

There has been a change in how you can collect your daily cards for the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom.  Instead of simply showing your park pass at either of the Sorcerers location (Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A. and behind the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square) you must now go to a portal and initiate your key card.  After you have used your key card at a portal, you can then return to a Sorcerers location to get your card pack for the day.

Not sure what or how to play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom?  Find out everything and more than you every wanted to know here.

Today, when I tried to get my daily card pack, I didn’t intend to play the game so I didn’t bring my key card.  The cast member at the Main Street Firehouse gave me a new key card and I told me I should go to the portal at the Hall of Presidents.  I finally found the correct portal – in the pouring rain and this portal has no overhead covering – and ventured to the Sorcerers location behind the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe to get my card pack.

I asked the cast member when this change occurred she said “three days ago”.  I asked her if you needed to simply start the window to get your card pack or if you needed to actually play the game at the portal and she wasn’t sure.  The cast member said the memo of the change was not clear except that in order to get a card pack players needed to go to a portal and initiate the game before new cards could be given

So, to test things out, I am going to investigate tomorrow whether I need to go to a specific portal to get a card pack and if I need to watch the entire “spiel”.

What do you think of the change?  Will this put a damper in your Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom playing?

Prince Eric’s Village Market Opens with Healthy Snacks

Prince Eric’s Village Market opened this past week in the New Fantasyland area of the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.

‘Better for You’ Goodies Continue to Expand in Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks

This new food and beverage location offers healthy snacks like fruit, veggies, hummus & chips, Greek yogurt, and more.  So if you want to a healthy snack or have dietary restrictions, this is a great new location for you.

Although I don’t immediately think of eating a healthy snack when I am at the Magic Kingdom, after a few days of ice cream, funnel cakes, and pretzels, it is a nice change of pace to eat an apple.

Are you wondering who the heck Prince Eric is and why he has his own Village Market?  Prince Eric is from The Little Mermaid and wins Ariel’s heart even though she can’t speak to him thanks to that awful Ursula.  I wonder if Sebastian and Flounder had something to do with there not being any seafood on the menu at Prince Eric’s Village Market???

Epcot’s Fountain View Starbucks Opens

The Fountain View in Epcot’s Future World reopened this week as the latest Starbucks location at Walt Disney World.

It will be serving Starbucks coffee as well as espresso and Frappuccino® blended beverages and Starbucks Artisan breakfast sandwiches.  Fountain View will also be serving Disney cookies, brownies and gourmet cupcakes at the bakery.  Fountain View will accept Starbucks cards.

Fountain View Reopens, Now Serving Starbucks at Epcot

Fountain View Reopens, Now Serving Starbucks at Epcot

The Main Street Bakery location of the Disney version of Starbucks opened last month and more locations will be opening soon at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Downtown Disney.    The Disneyland Resort version of Starbucks will reopen at the Market House on Main Street, U.S.A on September 25.  There will also a Downtown Disney Starbucks planned.

I personally don’t drink coffee, so I can’t join in on the never-ending Disney coffee debate, but I do have to say that this looks like a nice addition to Future World.  Food locations in Future World have been lacking and it will be nice to have a location to grab a quick bite to eat in the morning or a mid-day snack.  Those blueberry muffins do look scrumptious!!!!

Exclusive Hitchhiking Ghosts Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Card

For all you Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom players, another event exclusive game card will be available this year at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

This year’s exclusive card  features the Hitchhiking Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion and will allow players to use the card to direct poltergeists to scare away Disney villains in the game.

Hitchhiking Ghost Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Card Debuts at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

If you aren’t familiar with Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game, it is an in-park interactive game that allows Magic Kingdom guests to join Merlin in his quest to defeat Disney Villains who are trying to take over the Magic Kingdom.  You register at the Magic Kingdom Firehouse to begin the game.  Then you use a map to find the villain hideouts throughout the park and by using the magic portals and spell cards you collect each day you are in the Magic Kingdom, you defeat the villains and save the Magic Kingdom.  It sounds sort of complicated but it really is fun if you are looking for a new park experience.

For special events (i.e Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party), exclusive cards are given out to event attendees in additional to the regular spell cards.  The special event card is distributed at both the Magic Kingdom Firehouse and the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom location behind Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square during the party, and guests must register to play with their party ticket and event wristband in order to get one.

These are great cards to trade with other Sorcerers players, so be sure to pick yours up (along with the rest of your groups) if you are attending the Halloween party this year.   You can never have too many of an exclusive item.
